Kavehaz

The show at Kavehaz was pretty cool. I played piano and sang the whole set. Dave Little—who I met in Texas and now lives in Brooklyn—played electric guitar on about half the songs. He sounded amazing, especially for having learned the material a few days before the show. We did mostly new stuff, and even the older tunes got a really fresh treatment. I’d like to write the set list here, but a lot of the songs don’t really have names yet.

The modern poet, Charles Evans, opened up the night with some of his finest live work to date. He managed to completely alienate the audience in under 5 minutes. Of course, Mop Kid and I were laughing our heads off, so it was well worth it. “Neeeeeil Ham-Burger.”

Kavehaz is a cool club for the kind of stuff we were playing. They recently relocated from Soho to Chelsea, but kept the same vibe. The upright piano was in tune and is huge plus.

Old friends came out to show support, including Kavan, who I haven’t seen in a few years. He just moved here from Vancouver a few days ago, saw I was playing, and stopped by—Serindipidous.

New tunes, new club, new sound, old friends—it was a good night.

Indeed Jason. If you can imagine, C was bearded (first time ever), wearing glasses and a tie. He made noises with a trumpet and played bebop fragments on the piano. This was all in addition to the dependable totally out prose that we all love.
