Coldplay Nassau Coliseum
I saw Coldplay perform at Nassau Coliseum last night. It was a great show—exactly the same show I saw at Madison Square Garden 6 months ago—and the latter fact left me feeling a little empty. Even the parts of the tunes that sounded like they were improvised or embellished on the spot turned out to be reworkings that have been used throughout the entire tour. They did the same cover song as a tribute to Johnny Cash—Ring of Fire. It even seemed like they were a little bored—who wouldn’t be playing the exact same arrangement night after night after night.

Everyone in the band is an excellent musician, and I really love the epic sounds they come up with together. And the performance last night was technically spot on. I just wished they would have at least once just extended a section of a tune and jammed and really let loose—take a chance. With lyrics that are all about possibilities and hope, I wish they would have put some of that philosophy into the live performance.
Look how they shine for you.
Anyways, I hate to be so critical of a band I love so much. It was overall a really great show. Chris said something like see you again in a few years… which was a little cryptic. Another tidbit was that Long Island was where Coldplay first “landed” in the states—and so they were honored to be back. All and all I can’t wait to hear what comes out from them next, and I look forward to seeing them again—hopefully much sooner than “in a few years.”
