Fiona, Damien, and St. Nicks
A friend invited me out to see Fiona Apple and Damien Rice perform in Central Park on Wednesday. David Garza opened up with a duo set, accompanied by a guy playing one of those mini keyboard that you power by blowing wind into (whatever its called–Mrs. Schell used to have one in elementary school music class). Damien played a set with his usual trio, accompanied by University of North Texas brethen Earl Harvin on drums and another session player on bass. Oddly enough, Damien seems to be going in the direction of Justin Timberlake. Fiona played her set while the sun set—explaining to the audiences the emotional distresses she experienced on account of her mother, who was in attendance. Another UNT/Denton brethen, Dave Palmer, was part of her band on piano.
One thing to note about the venue–Central Park Summer stage–pot is ok, but salsa in glass containers will be confiscated.
The Last Leaves got picked up for a national tv show… more about that later. I’m busy working on some new material that’s going to knock the socks off the world.
I’m playing at St. Nicks Pub in about an hour. If you read this before 11pm tonight, leave the computer and come to the show.
