Craskey and Legend

Musician, friend, and old roomate Tom Craskey has been on the d.l. making beats for some big Hip-Hop acts for awhile now. His latest work is on 2 tracks for John Legends new album, Once Again. The songs are Stereo and Out of Sight. Out of Sight is only available in the states if you buy the album at Circuit City. So hit up Circuit City at your earliest opportunity and check it out. The album is great, and Stereo and Out of Sight are the shiznit.

I remember Tom first told me he was playing bass with a guy named John Stephens while I was still at UNT. I listened to a few demos just to see what my friend was up to and remember thinking that the guy had a great voice and the songs were solid. John was still unsigned at the time, and I just thought it was cool that Tom was playing in a band he dug.

A couple years later I moved to New York. John had just gotten signed to Columbia, and changed his last name to Legend. I caught a solo piano showcase at the Cutting Room and it was polished, and sounded great. Kanya made a guest appearance, rapping over solo piano, which I thought was an interesting sound.

A bit later John’s first album came out, and Tom called me to let me know he played bass on a few of the cuts, which was rockin news. A couple more years later, and Tom’s working on tracks for several big name artist. And he’s got 2 tracks on one of the biggest releases of the year. It’s been pretty cool to see it all come together for an old friend. Congrats Tom.
