I had an interesting conversation today with an old friend (who bears remarkable resemblance to Sean Connery) about how MySpace is replacing so many aspects of the music industry. I’ve heard industry folks say “we don’t even need demos and websites, just send us your myspace page.”

I was in a songwriting session last night and one of the writers was talking about how some A&R folks these days have gotten so lazy they just sit around and click through MySpace instead of going to shows.

Things have definitely shifted over the last couple years. I think it’s a pretty well established fact with rock bands in New York that very few people actually go to shows to listen to and appreciate music—(understandably) mostly due to saturation. But the fact that A&R in this city are sitting around clicking instead of going to shows is not a good sign.

Or maybe it is a good sign. If in fact they are sitting around clicking, maybe they’ll stumble upon my MySpace page, and listen to one of the new tunes I’ll be posting soon, get blown away, and sign me to a gigantic recording contract.
